Vermont is a sparsely populated state made up mostly of forests and mountains. In spite of this the state actually has a disproportionate amount of drug abuse in nearly all categories. Therefore it is not at all unusual for alcoholics to continue their habits for years at a time with few if anyone at all ever asking them if they have a problem or confronting them and asking them to get help. Even the chronic health problems that drinking and drugs create are not enough to bring up the issue of addiction when it is in a social setting that is motivated to consume and have a good time.

Education is one of the most important and undervalued aspect of dealing with addiction. Far too many people believe that drug experimentation, even at a young age, is harmless. Americans also tend to accept the use of alcohol and prescription drugs without understanding or being able to indentify risky and dangerous side effects. And most of all, there is a complete lack of understanding about how important a drug rehab is to beat a chronic addiction. Alcoholism is the most common form of drug addiction in the nation and yet many do not realize how difficult quitting it is. Slowing down or quitting drinking completely is how many people approach the problem. But quitting is just a small part of the battle. Emotional and psychological development must occur that will make someone want to stay sober and that is what our facilities are most accomplished at.
